Volunteer for 18th/19th century detective work
From medieval manuscripts to modern literature, Archives and Special Collections span over 900 years of history and include archives, rare books and manuscripts that are of regional, national, and international significance.
Explore Special Collections Online to discover the collections that have been digitised.
Our colleague Simon Dixon has been in touch to say Special Collections have an item that they’d like some help researching. It’s a domestic recipe collection from the late 18th and possibly early 19th century. The name ‘Rebecca Dixon’ is in the front of it with the year 1770. Beyond that, there are no obvious hints to it’s provenance or who she was.
Special Collections are wondering if someone might want to volunteer to transcribe it (which may yield more hints), and carry out a bit of research into whatever hints they find (there are additional names listed crediting some of the recipes included).
Would any of the Friends be up for this?
