Volunteers Wanted for Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society.

LAHS is looking to recruit a number of volunteers for its editorial and committee roles.

Hon. Co-Editor of the Transactions of the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society.

With the imminent retirement of John Thomas, we are looking for a hon. co-editor for the Transactions of the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society. The hon. co-editors work in partnership to produce the Transactions, which is key to the mission of the Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society (LAHS) to promote and support the archaeology, history and heritage of Leicestershire and Rutland.

The hon. co-editors are responsible for the overall quality of the content of the Transactions and for overseeing the complete process of production from submission, through full review of articles to final publication. They are responsible for upholding the mission and scope of the Transactions and for selecting papers that provide important contributions to knowledge. They work with the editorial board of LAHS and the publisher/printer to agree a timeline for publication, and on all matters related to the Transactions. The hon. co-editors are members of the LAHS committee.

We are looking for an hon. co-editor who has experience of editing scholarly or professional publications. If possible, they will have expertise in archaeology, heritage/museum studies, or a related area. They will join an hon. co-editor with expertise in Medieval History. The hon. co-editors will be mentored by the retiring editor and supported by committee members as part of the LAHS team.

Hon. Co-Editor of The Leicestershire Historian.

The Co-editors are responsible for the overall content and quality of the Leicestershire Historian (hereafter the Historian) and for overseeing the complete process of production, from submission of articles to final publication. The Co-editors select reviewers required in developing content for the Historian. The Co-editors also work with the Book Reviews’ Editor on the final copy; with the printer to agree a timeline for publication; and on all the stages of preparation of the Historian. The Co-editors will be members of LAHS and will join its management committee. The Co-editors will be supported and assisted by committee members as part of the LAHS team.

Hon. Membership Secretary.

The Membership Secretary is the main contact between LAHS and the members of the Society. S/he enrols members and renews memberships, manages membership records, sends out announcements and mailings to members via email and post, and answers general queries. Membership is managed using databases and via the LAHS website. Training in the use of the website will be given. The membership secretary needs to be a member of LAHS and will join its committee.
