Almshouses: Past, Present and Local.

Robert doesn’t tend to advertise his talks (even though he does 60+ a year), but his latest subject is proving quite popular.

Almshouses: Past, Present and Local” gives a general overview of the history of almshouses, and then looks at almshouses in the area where the talk is being given.

He has already given Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and East Staffordshire versions of the talk and just finished a South Yorkshire variant, and is working on two different versions for Leicestershire for early next year.

This is just one of the many talks he offers, so if there’s any local history societies, etc., out there who are interested, just get in touch.

Robert achieved an M.A. in English Local History at the University of Leicester in 2014, and is still involved as a volunteer at the Centre for English Local History at Leicester. He is also a trustee of the Heanor Local History Society and the Nottinghamshire Local History Association. And now, as well as researching aspects of the history of Heanor and the Erewash Valley, he gives numerous talks on various history topics – and he has written a couple of books on Heanor too.
