Local Population Studies Society (LPSS) Spring/Summer Day Meeting: Cambridge

Women in History.

On 08 June 2024 an in-person day meeting of the Society will be held at Sanders Hall PostDoc Centre, 105 Eddington Place Cambridge CB3 1AS from 11.00 a.m. until 5.30 p.m. with the theme of ‘Women in History’. The meeting will include talks from five historians (Charmian Mansell, Amy Erickson, Stephanie Brown, Jenny Smart and Samantha Williams) on women’s work, crime, poverty and climacteric insanity; it also includes a training elementin the form of a class on academic writing and publishing by the Editor of Local Population Studies, Andy Hinde.

There is also an opportunity for attendees to present their own research as a flash talk. A flash talk is an opportunity to present an overview of your research project. You will have six minutes to describe your project, using images and any other format you choose, followed by one minute of questions. It is a great opportunity to let people know what you are working on and to get feedbackfrom other attendees. If you are interested in giving one of these flash talks, please contact Romola Davenport (rjd23@cam.ac.uk), who can provide more information and suggestions.

The cost of attending will be £15 for LPSS members, and £35 for non-members (which includes one year’s online membership of LPSS). These fees include lunch and refreshments. For students the cost will be £5 for LPSS members and £17 for non-members (including one year’s online membership of LPSS). Anyone interested in attending is, for the time being, asked to contact Romola Davenport. A full programme and registration form will be available shortly.
