The BAHS Spring Conference and AGM will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 10:30AM to 4:15PM at Channing Hall, Sheffield

  • 11.00-12.00 – Session 1. Thirsk prize winner 2025 .
    • John Bulaitis – ‘The ‘Tithe War’ of 1881-1936 in historical perspective’.
  • 12.00-13.00 – Session 2.
    • Claudia Soares – ‘The Great Lone Land: Emotions, Environment and Child Migration, c.1870-1920’.
  • 13.00 – Lunch.
  • 13.30 – AGM (for society members).
  • 14.15-16.15 – Session 3. Ecological and environment approaches to the rural past and present.
    • Ian Rotherham – ‘Apart from Nature or a part of Nature: The implications of Cultural Severance, the Eco-cultural Commons, and studies from northern England’.
    • Fred Bricknell – ‘Living with water shocks: Vernacular water knowledges and community action in early modern England’.
