The World Turned Upside Down.
Congratulations to Dr. Ismini Pells, Course Director for the Advanced Diploma in Local History at the Department for Continuing Education at Oxford, and Professor Andy Hopper, formerly Director of the Centre for English Local History at the University of Leicester and now Professor of Local and Social History at Oxford, for being shortlisted for Learning Programme of the Year at the Museums and Heritage Awards for their work on a major learning project exploring the British Civil Wars.

The World Turned Upside Down is a collaborative project that brings the history of the British Civil Wars to life for schools and wider audiences. Developed through a partnership between academics, teachers and museum professionals, the free programme combines historical research with creative teaching approaches to make a complex period more accessible and engaging.
The Museums and Heritage Awards celebrate innovation and excellence across museums, galleries and heritage organisations worldwide. This year’s shortlist includes leading institutions such as the Natural History Museum, the Fitzwilliam Museum and Jane Austen’s House. The award ceremony took place in London on 13 May 2026.
