International Map of the World, 1910 to 1975 – September 2026.

The International Map of the World (IMW) was an early 20th-century attempt to produce a standardised, internationally coordinated topographic map series of the entire world at 1:1,000,000 scale. It was proposed by Albrecht Penck in 1891, who promoted the idea of common sheet divisions, symbols, projection rules, and the Greenwich meridian so that map sheets from different countries could fit together into a coherent global series.
