FCELH and The British Association for Local History.

BALH was formed in 1982 but can trace its origins back to the National Council For Social Service (NCSS) and its sub-committee the Standing Conference for Local History (SCLH), formed in 1948.

The British Association for Local History is the national charity which promotes local history and serves local historians, it publishes both The Local Historian, a quarterly journal, and Local History News, a topical magazine, as well as books and pamphlets on local history.

BALH also organises regular guided visits to archives, libraries, museums and other places of interest and arranges regular conferences in London and the regions as well as commissioning a prestigious annual lecture.

Registered members of the Friends of the Centre for English Local History are eligible to claim a discount when booking tickets for some British Association for Local History (BALH) events and 3rd party training courses via the BALH website.
